P.J. Perry, Edmonton
"Some folks play the guitar and some folks are
the guitar. Billy Joe is one of them.
The first thing one notices about Billy's playing is his honesty.
There are things in life that people can jive their way thro' but
playing the blues isn't one of them. You've either got it or you
haven't.
Billy's playing is all heart, add to that indispensable ingredient
his great time, sense of melody, strong voice and song-writing chops
and you've got the real thaaang. Billy Joe Green is on the scene!
James Muretich, Calgary Herald
"Too many blues guitarists stick to one style to the point of stifling
creativity, whether it's straight-up electric Chicago blues or a
backporch Delta sound. Not Edmonton's Billy Joe Green.
His new indie CD is an ambitious effort that fully captures the
dynamic range and powerful emotional playing of an extraordinary
axeman, from acoustic to electric, from Robert Johnson to letting
his "freak flag" fly on the explosive instrumental Soul Search.
Even his version of the classic lullaby Greensleeves is outstanding
a la Jeff Beck. Aside from one forgettable ballad, this disc hails
the arrival of Billy Joe Green as one of Canada's premier blues
guitarists.
